Absolutely stunning and unique two piece dress set from the late 1930s / early part of the 1940s. This dress set features a patterned rayon slip like underdress with a redingote style sheer rayon dress with the same print over top. So yes, the top layer is sheer and the under layer is not. They are meant to be worn as a set. The under layer has snaps at the side for closure and the overlayer has buttons up the front as seen.
